How to install Skype on Ubuntu 18.04

In this article, I will show you how to install Skype 8 on Ubuntu 18.04. We will download the Skype package from the official website and install it.

Skype is a telecommunications application software product that specializes in providing video chat and voice calls between computers, tablets, mobile devices, the Xbox One console, and smartwatches via the Internet and to regular telephones.[5] Skype additionally provides instant messaging services. Users may transmit both text and video messages and may exchange digital documents such as images, text, and video. Skype allows video conference calls.

Download Skype Package

Firstly, we need to download the Skype Debian package from Official website. You can either use wget or you can download directly from the website. I am using wget. Execute the following command:

wget https://go.skype.com/skypeforlinux-64.deb

Now, we have downloaded Skype Package., let’s install it quickly.

Install Skype Ubuntu

Now let’s install Skype using apt install to install skype with all dependencies. Just execute the following path.

ck@ck:~$ sudo apt install ./skypeforlinux-64.deb

Reading state information... Done
Note, selecting 'skypeforlinux' instead of './skypeforlinux-64.deb'

Skype has been installed with all the dependencies.

Launch Skype

Now its time to use Skype you can either start it from the terminal or use search it in applications.

From terminal:

skypeforlinux 

Or just Search it in activities.
